What a Brain-lobe can actually be - deliberately overbroad layman explanation
Do not picture an Arthitean Brain-lobe as merely a human-style intelligence module. "Brain-lobe" means a physical specialist neural department for a distinct mind-performable job. Some departments can do familiar things such as reasoning, remembering, planning, paying attention, understanding language, or regulating emotion. But those are only the ordinary-looking examples.
Other departments can defend the mind: one can resist mind control, another can detect possession, another can authenticate whether an intention really came from the self, another can isolate hostile commands, another can preserve identity when memories are rewritten, another can quarantine a cognitohazard, and another can create decoy thoughts for an enemy telepath while keeping the real plan hidden.
Other departments can operate powers. A lobe can be specialized for controlling a supernatural ability, coordinating many powers, deciding which effects are hostile, managing hax interactions, controlling metaeffects that alter other effects, or protecting a power from an effect that is trying to rewrite how that power works.
Other departments can deal with time and multiple selves. A lobe can preserve memory through time loops, tell which timeline a memory came from, integrate information from avatars or copies, coordinate several simultaneous consciousness streams, or decide how different versions of the same Arthitean should combine information after history has been rewritten.
Other departments can be stranger still: understanding paradoxical or conceptually impossible structures, thinking in alien cognitive architectures, reasoning under several incompatible causal systems at once without mixing them up, distinguishing higher ontological layers, modelling rules that rewrite themselves, or preserving meaning while the conceptual rules surrounding that meaning are being changed.
And because the Arthitean brain can be maximumless in neural amount, some lobes can specialize in managing the brain itself at that scale: neural addressing, maximumless parallel processing management, maximumless attention allocation, crossfunction selection, routing, inhibition, Higher-Lobe recruitment, and deciding which emergent dimensions should be exposed to which other lobes.
The limit is therefore not "could a human brain area normally do this?" The limit is "is there a coherent distinct operation that an Arthitean mind or neural system itself can perform, control, regulate, defend, resist, preserve, transform, simulate, or coordinate?" If yes, that operation is eligible to be a Brain-lobe function in this framework.
Once such a function is used, the Higher-Lobe rule can apply to it too. So there can be an H100 planning lobe, but also an H100 mind-control-resistance lobe, H100 hax-control lobe, H100 identity-preservation lobe, H100 timeline-memory lobe, H100 maximumless-parallelism lobe, or H100 lobe for some future Arthitean mental function that has no present human-language name.
That matters enormously for Hyperemergent Crossfunctionality. Hyperemergence is not merely "smart thinking lobes combining with other smart thinking lobes." A higher-order identity defence can combine with a higher-order power controller; a temporal-memory lobe can combine with a telepathic counterintelligence lobe; a conceptual lobe can combine with an anti-hax lobe; a maximumless neural scheduler can combine with a recursive crossfunction composer. The possible teams are as broad as the function-space itself.
