21. Layman's Explanation
Imagine every mental job has a tower of specialist departments.
The first department is not merely 'doing the right job'. Hyperfunction level 1 passes four separate tests: it is the right job, it is done with complete skill, it is useful, and it stays reliable under conditions that would normally make it worse.
Higher floors do not make the first floor's skill meter go above 100%. They add new kinds of structure. So level 100 is not '10,000% skilled'. It is a much richer kind of functional state built from many recursive dimensions.
The easiest analogy is a skill meter plus new kinds of skill. Imagine the ordinary skill meter is already completely full. A higher level does NOT squeeze the same meter past its maximum. Instead, the system creates an entirely new meter for a new kind of skill that feels related to skillfulness but is not the same property. The next level can create another new skill-like meter, and so on.
The zig-zag is also like purification that changes the material itself. Removing an impurity can do more than stop the impurity from causing harm: the purified material can enter a new structure and gain properties it did not have before. In the same way, -Infrafunction does not merely protect Hyperfunction from Unadeptness, Unusefulness, Unreliability, or Unfunction. The new negative dimension changes the functional state-space and helps create new higher-order positive properties.
So when you hear 'higher-order Adeptness-like property', do NOT picture 'Adeptness 120%'. Picture 'ordinary Adeptness is already 100%, but the brain now has another dimension of mastery that is clearly skill-like while being too structurally different to count as the original Adeptness property.'
At still higher levels, the process repeats: a richer bad/opposed Infrafunction state is created on one side of the zig-zag; Hyperfunction negatively occupies that richer state; that both removes/purifies against the richer bad structure and creates new room for new good/function-positive dimensional properties.
Now imagine an alarm tower for every department. Alarm 1 turns on when the corresponding department is silent. Alarm 2 turns on only if the department is silent AND Alarm 1 itself failed to turn on. Alarm 3 turns on only if the department, Alarm 1, and Alarm 2 are all silent. So Alarm 3 is not saying the original job failed three times; it is saying the job failed to activate and the first two alarm layers also failed before Alarm 3 finally caught it.
A very high alarm only becomes task-diagnostic if that department was supposed to be working. If the singer is not currently supposed to sing, Alarm 1 merely reports ordinary non-use. If the singer WAS supposed to sing and Alarm 50 is the first alarm that fires, then the singing department was silent and Alarms 1 through 49 all failed; Alarm 50 finally succeeded. That is a deep alarm-system failure, not proof that the singing function itself is 50 levels more unsuitable.
The 22 Brain-lobe Factors are different ways the brain physically improves: more neurons, better internal wiring, better organization, more specialization, more speed, more parallel processing, better routing, better inhibition, better self-control, better plasticity, better error correction, and better cross-team cooperation.
The endless Higher-Lobe tower is already there for every used function. What changes during training is like the dispatch system of an enormous city: which specialist floors a task calls, whether the right floors answer, how much workload they can cover at once, how quickly they work, how well different towers cooperate, and how reliable the alarm system is.
The identity proof can be pictured as labelled lockers. H2 has lockers labelled +H1 and -I1. H3 has those plus new lockers +H2 and -I2. Because those new labels are distinct lockers, H3 cannot be the same state as H2 even if both still contain 100% of the same primitive Function/Adeptness/Usefulness/Reliability.
For the strongest all-round training, do not merely try to make Alarm 1000 fire. Challenge the actual mental job so the current dispatch/coverage system genuinely falls short, and separately challenge the alarm system if you also want recursive self-monitoring to improve.
Short version: Higher Lobes provide an unlimited ladder of higher-dimensional versions of a used function. Recruitment and coverage determine which of those already-existing levels actually serve the current task. Antilobes report silence; A2+ specifically report that earlier Antilobe monitors also failed. The 22 factors improve deployment, throughput, organization, crossfunctionality, monitoring, and learning without redefining Hyperfunction order.
